Geography
Osprey is a census-designated area to the west in Sarasota County, Florida with land and water acreage spanning approximately 6.1 mi². Osprey is located south of Sarasota, Florida, north of Venice, Florida and easily accessed from US Hwy 41. The population of Osprey was 6,100 at the 2010 census.

Osprey, Florida is an oasis with lush parks and home to several points of historical interest: Oscar Scherer Park, Casey Key, Historic Spanish Point and the Legacy Trail.
Oscar Scherer Park is rated one of the top parks in the state. Oscar Scherer maintains two lakes, hiking and biking trails measuring over fifteen miles and is one of the best parks to see the protected Florida Scrub-Jays.
Casey Key is a secluded island with dazzling homes, secluded beaches, just a single road throughout the key and no traffic lights. Casey Key is also home to Blackburn Point Bridge, a historically recognized one lane bridge along the intercostal waterway and where many of the areas rowing teams practice alongside the dolphins.
Historic Spanish Point is a 30-acre museum and environmental complex which includes a turn of the century homestead, citrus packing house, nature trails, gardens, and other preserved archeological sites.
The Legacy Trail is a 15-mile trail running between Sarasota and Venice, passing through Osprey, paved for pedestrian and cyclist use with trailheads and rest stops.
Other noted attractions in Osprey include the Bay Area Preserve and Scherer Thaxton Preserve.
